Using Complex Filters in Action Builder
Complex Filters let you build more sophisticated queries than the default Wall Chart query builder supports. This is useful for questions like, "How many people work for this employer with this job title, or at a different employer with a similar title?"
What Are Complex Filters?
Complex Filters work similarly to the standard query builder found in other areas of Action Builder — such as the Wall Chart and Tasks — but go further by letting you link groups of filters with logical operators to create detailed, nested queries.
Example: In the image below, "Assessment" and "Follow Up" are part of a filter group with an OR operator. "Entity Type" is a separate filter linked to that group by an AND operator. This query returns anyone assessed as a 1, 2, or 3 OR anyone with an outstanding follow-up with any user.
Accessing Complex Filters
Navigate to the Customize tab in your campaign settings to access Complex Filters. From there, use AND and OR logic to build nested queries that identify entities meeting diverse sets of criteria.
Building Complex Filters
Complex Filters are made up of individual filters and filter groups, each combinable with AND or OR operators:
Filter: A single criterion for your query.
Filter Group: A collection of filters grouped together under a single logical operator.
Key things to know as you build:
Real-Time Count: The entity count updates as you build. Use the refresh button to update it as you refine your query.
Delete Steps: Use the red trash can icon to remove any filter or filter group.
Evaluation Order: Filters are evaluated from top to bottom.
Save Your Filter: Always hit save after creating or modifying a filter.
Available Filter Options
Complex Filters can only be created by Leads and Admins, but can be used by all users. The following filter types are available:
Connections
Search for entities that have ANY connections, or exclude entities with NO connections. You can also specify connection types to narrow results further.
Missing Name Information
Under the Name filter, search for entities missing essential information such as Last Name, Middle Name, or Preferred Name.
Include or Exclude Entities by Field or Response
Rather than selecting each response individually, you can include or exclude entities based on the presence of any value in a field using two options:
Info - Fields: Include or exclude entities based on whether any field is present.
Info - Responses: Include or exclude entities based on whether any specific response is present.
Both options are also available for Connection Info Fields.
Entities with No Assigned User
Under the In User's Assignment filter, you can find entities that are not assigned to any user.
Running Complex Filters from the Wall Chart
From the Wall Chart, select the Complex Filter option at the bottom of the Query Builder to select and run your saved complex query.
