Action Network and Action Builder Events Integration
This article explains what the Events Sync does, why it matters for your organizing work, and what to expect from this phase of the integration. This feature allows Admins and Leads to create events, edit events, and assign hosts.
What Is the Action Network → Action Builder Events Sync?
The Events Sync connects Action Network and Action Builder so that RSVP data moves between the two platforms automatically. When someone RSVPs to your event in Action Network, they are automatically marked as RSVPed in the linked Action Builder event. Before this integration, organizers had to manually export CSVs from Action Network and import them into Action Builder to keep their data current. The Events Sync eliminates that step.
Why This Matters for Organizers
Action Network is where people sign up. Action Builder is where organizing happens after they do. With the Events Sync, your Action Builder event data stays current automatically. That means organizers can start confirmation outreach, assign turnout tasks, and track follow-up right away without waiting for someone to run an export first.
Getting Set Up
Before You Begin
Make sure your Action Network group and Action Builder campaign are already connected through the standard Action Builder and Action Network integration. If that is not yet set up, start with the Action Builder and Action Network Integration Guide before continuing.
Step 1: Enable Events Sync in Action Builder
Events do not sync by default. You need to turn on the Events Sync toggle for each campaign individually.
- In Action Builder, go to Campaign Customization and click the Integrations tab.
- Find the Events Sync toggle and turn it on.
- Click Save.
Step 2: Create Your Event in Action Network First
You will need to create the event in Action Network before linking it in Action Builder.
Important: The Events Sync is forward-looking only. RSVPs will not backfill from Action Network. Only RSVPs that occur after the two events are linked will sync into Action Builder. Make sure you link your events before people start registering!
Event details like name, date, time, and location are not synced between the two platforms. You will need to enter that information separately in both Action Network and Action Builder.
Step 3: Create and Link Your Event in Action Builder
Once Events Sync is enabled, an Events tab will appear in your campaign navigation.
- Click New Event.
- Add your event name, date and time, location or virtual link, and description.
- Select a host. The person creating the event is selected by default.
- Choose which tasks Action Builder should generate automatically:
- Confirm attendance 5 days before the event
- Double confirm 2 days before the event
- Track attendance on the day of the event
- Find the Integrations section and toggle on Sync this event with one on Action Network.
- Select the Action Network event you want to link. The list shows your 50 most recently created events sorted by date. You can search the list if you have a lot of events.
- Click Sync and then Save Changes or Create Event.
Once saved, an icon will appear on the event indicating it is syncing with Action Network. Your campaign's Magic Tag will also be automatically applied to the linked Action Network event. You do not need to add it manually.
If someone who already exists in Action Builder RSVPs, the RSVPed status will be added to their record. If they do not exist yet, a new record will be created for them with the RSVPed status.
What the Events Sync Includes
The Events Sync covers one core function: syncing RSVP status from Action Network into Action Builder. When someone RSVPs in Action Network, their status in the linked Action Builder event is updated to RSVPed automatically. Existing integration behaviors still apply. Custom fields and tags from Action Network will continue to sync to entities in Action Builder.
What the Events Sync Does Not Include
The following features are not yet available but are planned for future releases:
- Two-way syncing between platforms
- Attendance syncing back to Action Network
- Syncing Action Network custom fields into Action Builder event Info Fields
- Bulk event uploads
- Bulk RSVP uploads
- API access to event data
Filtering Event Data with Query Builder
Query Builder lets you search and filter your event data by RSVP status, attendance status, outreach status, custom Info Field values, and event history. You can use it to build lists for reminder texts, reconfirmation outreach, post-event follow-up, and identifying potential leaders based on engagement.
Permissions in Action Builder
Admins and Leads can create events, edit events, and assign hosts. Hosts can edit any event they are assigned to, regardless of their role. Activists can view events in their assigned turf, complete event-related tasks, and view connected RSVP records, but they cannot create or edit events.
About Action Network Events
Action Network supports in-person, virtual, and hybrid event formats. When creating an event you can add a map display, time zone settings, a banner image (1500 pixels wide recommended), a custom RSVP form, accessibility information, guest counts, capacity limits, auto-response emails, and add-to-calendar links.
